Vitamin C has a wide range of uses including pain relief, infection fighting, cholesterol management, and many other too numerous to mention. Supplemented as part of our diet, vitamin C is a popular substance for the prevention of the common cold. While it appears that Vitamin C may only contribute very little to it’s prevention, it has been shown to reduce the severity and ease the symptoms of them. In fact, it has been shown that large doses of Ascorbic Acid (1 to 8 grams daily and taken at the onset of symptoms, has shortened the duration of the illness by 23%!1

Another proven benefit of ascorbic acid is in its ability to maintain circulatory health, even after a heart attack or stroke. Damage to these organs is related to the inability of blood vessels to dilate enough to allow blood flow to the affected areas. However, unlike many nutrients, the human body does not have the ability to make their own vitamin C. Therefore, we must obtain vitamin C through diet or supplementation. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin C has recently been increased or men and women. Smokers should supplement more because cigarettes contaminate the body with increased amount of carcinogens.3
